As Associate Director of the Monarch Initiative, I manage the design, development, release, and publication of Monarch Software and integrative data stack. I am cross-trained in biomedical research, public health, project management, software engineering, bioinformatics, and data visualization.

I am a key contributor to several international efforts to improve persistent identifiers and data citation and have led a two-year multinational community-based effort to define best practice with GUIDs. This highly technical 44-author paper, nicknamed “ID21C” (doi:10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005278) was published in PLoS Biology in the summer of 2017 and has garnered significant interest -- evidence that identifiers are a cross-cutting pain point and often misunderstood. The companion blog post to the paper, “Identifiers are the Potholes of the Information Superhighway” (bit.ly/id21c-blog), was aimed at a less technical audience. This impactful work has served as a cornerstone for additional efforts in the identifier community, such as the Knowledge Beacon for the NCATS Biomedical Data Translator, PrefixCommons.org, and prefix-based resolution by identifiers.org and N2T.
